Another home match this week and the girls performance was superb again. In the first half we had strikes from Jess Potter, Katy Peck, Rebecca Roberts and two outstanding strikes from Steph Collins and Leah Jennings. 5 - 0 at half time. The second half Rhode Lane played there part and came out challenging for the ball but Ilchesters defence held strong and three further goals came to finish off the opposition
The girls had something to prove to themselves this time out playing last years League, cup and League tournament winners. Burnbridge visited Ilchester for the first time this season and ilchester returned to their best producing a 4 - 1 win. In the first half Ilchester had all the attacks and should have finished more of them. At half time Burnbridge had had one attack and scored. The second half started and Ilchester started to believe in themselves. Changes to the team saw Megan Purchase making some brilliant attacks down the right wing and Katie Peck having a new role to fulfill at right back. Goals came from Kim Norman (2) Rebecca Roberts (1) and Jess Potter (1). An excellent three points which will hopefully set up the rest of the season. Kim Norman was awarded the Girl of the game
A slow start to the season for Ilchester Girls; Whilst winning the first game of the season against Rhode Lane with some impressive football the girls have struggle to find the same form in the matches to follow. A visit to Yeovil Town saw yeovil on good form winning the game 4 - 1. Girl of the game was Emily Rowden. We then had a visit from Bishops Lydeard where the girls put in a tremendous effort losing to two fortunate strikes from Bishops 0 - 2 the final result. Girl of the game - Hayley Napper A visit to Ilchester on the 18th October from Butleigh Wessex saw Ilchester go 2 - 0 up in the first half with goals from Jess Potter and Rebecca Roberts, but again they lost their way in the second to draw the match 2 - 2. Girl of the game - Elly Coleman who has put in some great performances at left back. The Manager Nigel Williams commented and said that the girls are playing some good football and they are finding their feet, it’s a new team this year and we have to learn to trust and support each other. I am very proud of my team and know that they can turn this around I am sure that our team will continue to grow and can’t wait to see them back to their best.
Ilchester 10 Rhode Lane 1 20.09.08Ilchester Girls Under 15’s kicked off the season with a win at Rhode Lane Wanderers . It took approx 20 mins for Ilchester to settle but they went in at half time 2 - 0 up. When they went back on it was like watching a different side. Jess Potter making a number of runs down the Left and crossing superbly for finishes by Rebecca Roberts. The midfield held together to win the battle in the middle of the park. But it was the back four that impressed the Manager with Emily Rowden and Hannah Eglon combining in the middle of defence forming a new partnership for this season. Further goals from Leah Jennings, Kim Norman, Steph Collin’s and Megan Purchase saw the eventual score finishing at 1 - 10. An impressive win away from home. Girl of the Game - Hannah Eglon
A fantastic start to 11-a side football. In their first outing of the season Ilchester girls under 15’s played Rhode Lane Wanderers. In the first half Ilchester made some impressive moves passing the ball around and becoming more confident as the half went on. At half time Ilchester were 7 - 0 ahead with 2 spectacular goals from Steph Collins and Leah Jennings. Steph picked up the ball approx 40 yards from goal and took it round two players shooting from 30 yards, placing the ball over the keeper in the centre of the goal. A cross in from the right by Kim Norman saw Leah flick the ball into the net with a reaction back heel. Ilchester continued in the second half with impressive runs from Jess Potter down the left and Elly Coleman down the right crossing for the ball to hit the back of the net. Another 30 yard shot from Megan Purchase saw the ball fly into the back of the net, a few more goals and the Match finished at 17 - 0. A noted performance from two players at the back Hannah Eglon and Emily Rowden has given them the joint Girl of the game
